How Not to Mix Up Your Medication While Traveling

Traveling can seriously mess up your medication schedule. If you have a chronic illness that depends on strict medicating schedule to be manageable such as hypertension or diabetes, it's best to have help when planning for travel. Here are some tips on how NOT to lose, miss, or mix up your medications while traveling:

1. Clue in your doctor. Ask your doctor for a printout outlining your general health condition and any specific illness that you have. Include your medication needs should you need reference while away. Your doctor can also help you adjust your dosing schedule to another time zone.

2. Chat with your pharmacist. Inform your pharmacist that you'll be traveling and need medications to bring along. Ask for advice and informational pamphlets about your medications and the best ways to store and organize them while traveling.

3. Pack more medicines than you think you need. Even if you'll only be gone for two weeks, pack medicines that can last for up to a month. It's easy to misplace bottles or lose your luggage while in transit. As it is, it's best to have a back up supply.
