Tips on Looking for Good Online Health Info

The Internet is teeming with information on various topics but more so, on health. Googling for certain health conditions or information can lead you to over a million results. But how to choose which site to read or what kind of information to trust? How do you know if the health information you got is trustworthy? The answer is, you don't.

But this doesn't mean that you should trust every health fact you come across. Here are tips on looking for good online health info:

Check the source. Many health websites post information from other sources. Check whether the information source is properly documented so you can verify the accuracy.

Look for the date. Information posted five years ago may not be true today. Many web pages will post the date on which the page was last reviewed or updated. The more current the information, the better.

Consider the publisher. Generally, health info published by the government, universities, or well-known organizations are safe and reliable. But don't dismiss personal websites by individuals. They often contain useful tips and information gathered through experience.
